The Lonesome Valley Singers - Corpse Circus Revue
Renegade Radio Magazine
By Rob Pringle

Sept. 2007

The Lonesome Valley Singers are fronted by David Chenery who at the tender age of thirty nas had a tribute album dedicated to him featuring eighteen artists from his current home in Victoria BC. If this doesn't make a statement of the songwriting skillsJhatThe Lonesome Valley Singers contain then nothing will. I mean, can you name any other thirty-year-old who has had a tribute album made of their songs? So with Chenery's writing skill placed above or beside all others there is only one factor to determine: Can you accept the vision he has for the songs he produces? It shouldn't be hard, because Chenery writes feel-good music. That is, music that makes you feel good because you are better off than the subjects of the songs. These songs are delivered in a turn-of-the-last-century roots style with a punk infused undertone that is highlighted by Chenery's high and lonesome vocals. This sound is backed by the rest of the Lonesome Valley Singers who provide a full back-porch stomping country experience including moving harmonies from Chelsea Wakelyn and banjo pickin' by Jana McLaughlin. All of the ten tracks on Corpse Circus Revue could be featured on the next Chenery tribute album, but nothing could compare to the originals.
